Senate Approves 2024 Budget, Activity & Growth Data Later This Week

  • Activity & production data due Thursday and growth data on Friday remain the focus on the local economic calendar. On Tuesday, Chile’s senate approved country’s budget for 2024, according to a Senate post in X:
    • “The Senate Chamber approved the report of the Joint Commission, established to resolve the differences that arose between both Chambers during the processing of the Public Sector Budget Bill for the year 2024.”
  • Chile and Korea will launch another round of talks on upgrading their bilateral free trade agreement (FTA) in response to changing global trade circumstances, Seoul's industry ministry said Wednesday. The eighth round of negotiations to revise the FTA, which went into effect in 2004, will begin later in the day in Seoul and continue until Friday, according to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.
  • Bloomberg reported that Chile’s private health-care industry is in crisis, with many warning that some companies face bankruptcy. The collapse of the system would represent a crisis for the nation’s entire health system, according to almost half of respondents in a poll by Espacio Publico and IPSOS.
