Senate To Meet Shortly Ahead Of Vote On Spending Package

The Senate will meet shortly to hold a "quorum call" to establish attendance and agree on procedure ahead of a vote on the House-passed government funding 'minibus' expected later this evening. The package, which covers roughly one-third of discretionary spending, must be passed by midnight tonight to avoid a partial shutdown of six federal government agencies.

  • As Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) requires the support of Republican Senators, there is a very minor risk that any extended amendment process, or filibuster from conservative Republicans, could push the vote beyond the deadline.
