Senior MEPs Call On UK To Drop Northern Ireland Protocol Bill

The three co-chairs of the UK Contact Group in the European Parliament have signed a joint press release criticising the UK gov'ts presentation of a bill that unilaterally disapplies sections of the Northern Ireland protocol. The release states that the senior MEPs are "deeply concerned with the UK’s unilateral action, which constitutes a serious and unacceptable breach of international law."

• The signatories - David McAllister (Germany, EPP, CDU), Bernd Lange (Germany, S&D, SPD), and Nathalie Loiseau (France, RE, LREM) - state that " The Northern Ireland Protocol Bill puts into question the credibility of the UK Government to comply with its international obligations under the Withdrawal Agreement and the Trade and Cooperation Agreement, damages mutual trust and creates uncertainty for people, investors and business in Northern Ireland."
• Add that, in line with the Commission, the Brexit Withdrawal Agreement and NI protocol contained within are not open for renegotiation.
