Serbia Retracts Energy Supply Fears Amid Possible Sanctions

Serbia’s main oil company NIS will not face sanctions from 5 December, despite Gazprom being the majority shareholder, stabilising the country’s energy supply situation from December, Serbia’s Energy minister said in an e-mail.

  • “Due to timely planning, NIS has secured sufficient quantities for its refinery in Pancevo after December 5”, the minister said.
  • “After December 5…unimpeded supply of all types of crude available on the free market has been secured, which will ensure security of supply for the Pancevo refinery”, she added.
  • Earlier this week, Serbia announced it is considering retaking majority control of NIS to avoid falling under EU sanctions.
