Share of EU Member State 2023 Forecast Power Generation Capped and Uncapped.

NATURAL GAS
  • 180 €/MWh power price cap proposed by the EU Commission affects 68% of EU generation in 2023. Strong regional variations: Slovenia, Romania and Finland face at least 88% of electricity generation capped.
  • While countries with high renewables & nuclear share face the most capped generation, these also tend to have lower power prices. As a result, they face many hours of prices less than €180/MWh where the cap would not apply. This is especially true for the Nordic countries.
  • In absolute terms, Germany and France are expected to account for 43% of the bloc’s capped electricity generation in 2023 once the 180 €/MWh EU revenue cap is active.
