Sky: Stoltenberg To Stay On As Sec-Gen, Delays Norges Bank Start

NATO

Deborah Haynes at Sky News tweets: "BREAKING: Jens Stoltenberg will stay on as head of the NATO alliance for another year as allies agreed to extend his term because of the grave security crisis triggered by Russia’s war in Ukraine, Sky News understands. The move is set to be formally announced at an extraordinary meeting of leaders of NATO’s 30 member states at its headquarters in Brussels on Thursday. However, the extension has already been agreed between all allies, according to two western officials. The extension will see Mr Stoltenberg, a former prime minister of Norway, remain as secretary general beyond September, when his term had been due to expire. The highly-regarded official is already the longest-serving NATO chief having been in the post since 2014."

  • Stoltenberg had been due to take over as governor of the Norges Bank from December 2022, but it appears that this date will have to be pushed back into late 2023 insted.
  • FT first reported that Stoltenberg would be offered some form of extension to his term yesterday.
