Source Reports Suggest COVID Restrictions In Pyongyang Have Been Relaxed

North Korea eased mobility restrictions in its capital on Sunday, Kyodo News and Yonhap News Agency reported citing their sources in Beijing, weeks after the nation declared its first known case of COIVD-19.

  • Earlier, the state-run Korean Central News Agency said that the Workers' Party of Korea had judged that the country's COVID-19 situation had improved, hinting that virus countermeasures could be relaxed.
  • The claim that virus transmission has been brought under control has been disputed by foreign experts. The decision to ease some restrictions is believed to be dictated by the need to protect North Korea's fragile economy.
