State Budget Freeze Could Be Extended for Further Two Months

  • The government’s state budget spending freeze that began in late September could be extended for a further 1 – 2 months to allow for a deeper central spending review, according to a political aide to Orban speaking to Partizan. The aide also stated that there is no circumstance in which the government would ask for financial help from the IMF, with Hungary having no liquidity issues.
  • At a green finance conference yesterday, NBH’s deputy governor Kandracs outlined that the bank is working hard to get inflation under control, but stated the current crisis should not derail sustainability goals.
