Supreme Court Vote On 'Secret Budget'

BRAZIL

Brazil’s top court judge Rosa Weber voted for the illegality of amendments that allow money to be disbursed to lawmakers with reduced transparency and which became known as “the secret budget”.

  • She was the first to vote and the other judges will continue Thursday
  • The approval of the amendments is seen as key for lawmakers to vote in favour of the broader spending bill. Estado reported that Lula’s allies see Weber’s vote as expected and still think the court will end up allowing the “secret budget” to continue with some changes.
