POWER: Svensk Vindenergi Proposes Solutions to Boost Wind in Sweden
POWER
Swedish group Svensk Vindenergi has outlined five key proposals aimed at streamlining the approval process and reducing obstacles for wind in Sweden, it said.
- The proposal includes ensuring municipalities make early decisions on new wind power projects, with well-motivated vetoes, and prevent the reversal of approval decisions.
- Additionally, the group also recommends reintroducing support for local authorities to identify suitable wind power areas, reducing vetoes, particularly from the Armed Forces, who rejected over 50% of onshore projects in 2023.
- Instruct the Armed Forces to identify suitable areas for wind power and provide early feedback on new projects.
- Reinstate the Armed Forces' study on global wind power coexistence and propose improvements for Sweden.
- And implement legislative changes to prioritise climate concerns in environmental assessments, ensuring equal focus on wind, solar, and nuclear power.
