/SWEDEN: Hungary To Vote On Sweden's NATO Accession On Feb 26

HUNGARY

Head of Hungary's ruling Fidesz parliamentary group Mate Kocsis suggested that the legislature could vote on Sweden's NATO accession bid on February 26. The official posted an image of his letter to the Speaker, in which he asks for the addition of the final vote on the matter to that day's agenda.

  • Separately, government spokesman Zoltan Kovacs wrote on X that Kocsis "proposes that the Hungarian National Assembly hold a final vote on ratifying Sweden's NATO membership on February 26, pledging Fidesz's support for the motion."
  • Hungary is the last NATO member state yet to approve Sweden's accession bid. Stockholm applied for membership alongside Finland after the Russian full-scale invasion of Ukraine, with Helsinki formally entering the alliancein April.
