Switzerland Unable to Guarantee Gas Supply

The Swiss government has said they cannot guarantee there will be enough gas for everyone in Switzerland in the event of a supply shortfall according to its energy minister Simonetta Sommaruga in an interview with SonntagsZeitung out on Sunday.

  • "No one can guarantee that there will always be enough gas for everyone," Sommaruga said.
  • In the event of a shortage of both gas and electricity in Switzerland, energy would first be rationed for businesses with households being spared the longest.
  • Switzerland relies on neighboring countries for gas and has limited storage capacity to prepare ahead of winter. Gas makes up a relatively small proportion of Swiss energy needs at 15%
