Tankers Detained in Asia for Safety Checks Increases

OIL

Asia has increased the safety inspections on old foreign vessels arriving at ports according to Bloomberg.

  • The number of old oil tankers has soared with the ‘dark’ or ‘shadow’ fleet of oil tankers growing to include tankers shipping Russian oil and products as well as sanctioned Iranian and Venezuelan oil.
  • More checks mean longer delays and even more aging ships needed to keep sanctioned crude flowing.
