JAPAN: The latest round of weekly international security flow data revealed
another large round of net purchases of foreign bonds from Japanese investors
(Y1.6566n), allowing the 4-week rolling sum of the measure to move into positive
territory for the first time since late March. This was also the largest round
of net weekly purchases seen since the record round of net buying recorded in
early March.
- Japanese investors flipped to net selling of foreign equities (Y186.4bn),
bringing a streak of 15 consecutive weeks of net purchases to an end. Note this
was the first week of net selling recorded in the current fiscal year, and only
the third week of net selling recorded in the current calendar year.
- Foreign investors lodged a second consecutive week of net selling of Japanese
bonds, albeit at a slightly reduced rate (Y484.3bn).
- Foreign investors also reverted to selling Japanese equities (Y440.4bn),
recording the largest round of net weekly selling seen since the turn of the
fiscal year.
