US TSY FUTURES: The Office of US Trade Representative (USTR) has annc tariffs on
China goods will start after midnight tonight. Background, according to the
USTR, the U.S. will "impose an additional duty of 25%...on appr $34B worth of
imports from China." According to USTR, Customs and Border Protection will
collect "additional duties on Jul 6." Following another round of "public notice
and comment process, including a public hearing", additional tariffs on "$16
billion worth of imports from China" may be issued. "USTR will issue a final
determination on the products from this list that would be subject to the
additional duties. USTR will issue a notice in the Federal Register with details
regarding this process within the next few weeks." Pres Trump annc last Wed he
"won't invoke emergency law on China," responding to China's "technology theft"
through the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS), an
inter-agency committee of the US Gov that reviews the national security
implications of foreign investments in U.S. companies or operation.
