Third Train at Arctic LNG-2 On Hold: Total

LNG

Third and final train of the Arctic LNG project in Russia has been put on hold, although the second train is likely to be installed, according to Reuters citing stakeholder Total.

  • "The third train for me is on hold, which I understand," Total’s CEO Patrick Pouyanne said, adding that he believed the project's stakeholders were willing to install the second train.
  • The project has faced difficulties following the imposition of sanctions upon it since Nov. 2023, leading to force majeures from stakeholders, including Total.
  • "Today, we are no longer in the governance (for the project)," Pouyanne said as reported by Reuters. They added that he did not want to expose the French company to any type of secondary sanctions.
  • Each train has a capacity of 6.6m mtpa of LNG, which would take the total capacity for the facility to 19.8m mtpa.
