Toole Favourite To Become NSW Deputy Premier

The Nationals' NSW division are holding a secret ballot to pick their leader, after John Barilaro stepped down on Monday. Under the Liberal-National coalition agreement, the new leader of the Nationals will replace Barilaro as Deputy Prime Minister of New South Wales.

  • Current deputy leader of NSW Nationals Paul Toole is a favourite to beat veteran MP Melinda Pavey in the race for the top job. SMH sources suggested that Toole has the majority support within the party room.
  • Liberals' Dominic Perrottet was sworn in as the youngest NSW Premier in history on Tuesday after replacing embattled Gladys Berejiklian as leader of NSW party division.
  • The results of the Nationals' internal vote may hit the wires shortly.
