TotalEnergies CEO has discussed the resumption of the troubled Mozambique LNG project with Mozambique President Daniel Chapo, Bloomberg reports.

  • “[TotalEnergies CEO Patrick] Pouyanne reaffirmed TotalEnergies’ commitment to resuming the project,” Mozambique President Daniel Chapo said in a translated post on X.
  • “We reaffirm the importance of the project for the economic growth of Mozambique, and efforts are therefore being made to ensure the necessary stability for its implementation”.
  • The project was paused in 2021 due to violence and safety concerns for workers in the local area.
  • Plans to restart the project by the end of 2024 slipped after further violence flared following October’s disputed presidential election.
