TotalEnergies CEO Highlights Difficulty of EU Sanctions on Russian LNG
LNG
European politicians understand the potential impact of sanctions on LNG from Russia, and do not want a repeat of the gas crisis of 2022 according to TotalEnergies CEO Patrick Pouyanne said.
- He added that if sanctions are imposed on Russian LNG, then the price of gas would rise very quickly and that they understand in Europe that LNG is saving the European gas market.
- Pouyanne also said that significant volumes of LNG from new projects would enter the market beginning in 2027.
- The Commission, the EU's executive, is currently preparing a 14th package of sanctions against Russia. The new measures could include restrictions on three Russian LNG projects, and on the re-export of Russian LNG from EU ports according to Politico reports.
