Reuters, citing MEG Energy, has reported that the Canadian Trans Mountain oil pipeline is expected to start filling with oil in late 2023 and become fully operational by early 2024.
- Successful completion of the project will be a significant boost to Canadian oil exporters and nearly triple the pipeline capacity from Alberta to the Pacific Coast from 300,000 bpd to nearly 900,000 bpd.
- The Trans Mountain pipeline expansion stalled last year when Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland announced that the Federal government was withdrawing from the project due to cost overrun.
- Freeland said in February, 2022: "I want to assure Canadians that there will be no additional public money invested in TMC."
