Treasury Minister To Answer UQ In Commons On Downbeat IMF Report 1230GMT

UK

A Treasury minister will be expected to deliver a statement in the House of Commons on the downbeat IMF assessment on the UK economy for 2023 published earlier this morning following the granting of an urgent question to Shadow Chancellor of the Exchequer Rachel Reeves.

  • The UQ granted requests that Chancellor of the Exchequer Jeremy Hunt deliver a statement, but it could be a more junior Treasury minister that is put out to answer the UQ.
  • The IMF forecasts have the UK as the only major industrialised economy set to record negative growth in 2023, with real GDP growth set to come in at -0.6%, with Germany next lowest at +0.1% growth.
