TSMC Earnings In Focus; US & Taiwan Hold Meeting

Taiwan dollar weakened from the open, TMSC are expected to report results today, but an expected strong batch of earnings could be tarnished after reports that a blackout at one of its plants yesterday could cost the company TWD 1bn.

  • Elsewhere there have been some developments on the COVID-19 front, Taiwan announced late yesterday it would ease quarantine rules for air crews from April 15, while it plans to widen the vaccination programme from April 21
  • Tensions with China simmer in the background with Taiwan President planning to meet with ex-U.S. Senator Christopher Dodd and two former deputy secretaries of state, Richard Armitage and James Steinberg later today, China has expressed dissatisfaction at the meeting saying it will only exacerbate strained relations.
