Turkey and Russia Discussing Gas Discounts and Payment Deferral

Turkey is in discussions with Russia about gas discounts and the possibility of deferring payment for gas supplies according to Turkish Treasury and Finance Minister Nureddin Nebati.

  • Turkish officials are understood to be confident about achieving both issues.
  • Regarding Turkey being used to circumvent western sanctions on Russia Nebati said “It is not a country whose behavior could lead to violations of the international financial system. We are absolutely sure of this. We receive everything legally.”
  • The two countries are working on turning Turkey into a gas hub for Russian supplies.
