Turkey and South Korea in Nuclear Plant Talks

  • South Korea’s state-run Korea Electric Power is discussing with Turkey cooperation over a nuclear power plant project, Yonhap News reported, citing Kepco. Kepco and Turkey’s project involves building 4 nuclear reactors, each with a capacity of 1,400mw, in the northern area of Turkey.
  • Six leaders of the opposition alliance will meet today in Istanbul in solidarity with Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu, who yesterday was sentenced to two years and seven months in prison for insulting election officials.
  • Turkey posted a 108.3b lira central government budget surplus in November, moving from a 83.3b lira deficit in the month prior, according to data published by the Treasury and Finance Ministry this morning.
  • In November, 117.8 thousand houses were sold in Turkey. Although sales increased 14.8% compared to October, they fell 34.1% year-on-year, thus entering the fifth month annual decline, Ekonomim write. Russian nationals were top foreign buyers in Nov with 2,575 houses bought, followed by Iranians with 510 bought.
