NATO

Reuters ran a source report today noting that Turkey's parliament will "highly likely" approve Finland's NATO accession bid before its closure in mid-April and the subsequent Turkish general elections. This comes after an official confirmation that Finnish President Sauli Niinisto will visit Turkey on March 16-17.

  • Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan told reporters this morning that his Fininsh counterpart "will come to Turkey on Friday and we will meet. After that, we will fulfil our promise."
  • Finland's NATO membership bid would still need to be ratified by Hungary. News website hvg.hu reported that the government requested a delay of a parliamentary session during which lawmakers were to vote on the accession bids of the two Nordic countries.
