Turkey's Erdogan To Hold Calls w/Putin, Zelenskyy On Grain Deal-For Min

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu has confirmed that President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will hold calls with his Russian and Ukrainian counterparts in the coming days in an effort to resolve a breakdown in the UN/Turkey-brokered Black Sea grain deal.

  • Three more ships carrying Ukrainian grain have departed the country's Black Sea ports this morning, but now there is no assurance of their safety following the suspension of the grain initiative by Russia on Saturday.
  • Ismini Palla, a UN spox for the organisation overseeing the agreement, known as the Black Sea Grain Initiative, stated that the ships that departed on Monday and Tuesday had previous authorisation before Russia suspended its participation from the deal.
  • On Monday, Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that, “We are not saying that we are stopping our participation in this operation, we are saying that we are pausing it.”
