U.S. Deems Iran Response On Nuclear Deal "Not Constructive"

The U.S. has confirmed receiving Iran's latest proposals on a nuclear deal (JCPOA) draft but assessed that they were "not constructive," according to the AFP and several reporters from other outlets.

  • CNN reporter Jennifer Hansler tweeted the following: “We can confirm that we have received Iran’s response through the EU,” a @StateDept spokesperson said. “We are studying it and will respond through the EU, but unfortunately it is not constructive.”
  • Al Arabiya English cited similar comments from a National Security Council official who noted that "we have received Iran’s response through the EU. We are studying it and will respond through the EU, but unfortunately, it is not constructive."
  • Washington's response comes after Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani was quoted by state media as saying that "the text that was sent (by Iran) has a constructive approach aimed at finalising the negotiations."
