CHINA: U.S. President Donald Trump was the first world leader to call Chinese
President Xi Jinping after Xi was officially re-elected general secretary of the
Communist Party, the Global Times reported on Thursday, saying the call
represented a "positive signal for China-U.S. relations." Trump also
congratulated Xi on the successful conclusion of the 19th Communist Party
Congress on Wednesday, the report said. During the call, Trump said he was
looking forward to meeting with Xi in Beijing during his November visit, the
report said. The two leaders are expected to discuss a number of bilateral
issues, including trade and North Korea, during their meetings. The report added
that the two leaders "frequently speak with one another," and that "their
interaction has grown to represent the advances made on the development of
China-U.S. relations."
