UK Foreign Sec-Sanctions On Russia Until Full Withdrawal From Ukraine

Wires carrying comments from UK Foreign Secretary Liz Truss. Truss states that the UK will maintain sanctions on Russia until their forces have made a full withdrawal from Ukrainian territory. Also states that the gov't 'is determined to impose more sanctions on Russia'.

  • Alexandra von Nahmen tweets on the EU's stance on sanctions ahead of the 23-24 Jun EUCO summit: "EU leaders look set to continue with sanctions on Russia. Acc to a draft of the EU summit conclusions, "work will continue on sanctions, including to strengthen implementation and prevent circumvention"."
  • The troubling economic outlook for European nations, with energy and food prices spiking, gov'ts could be inclined to encourage or seek some accommodation with Moscow in order to facilitate food and energy trade that could depress prices. However, with Truss's comments and the draft EUCO summit conclusions it appears breaking the West's resolve on sanctions is unlikely at least in the short term.
