UK Government In Talks With US LNG Suppliers To Boost Imports

Sky News has reported that UK government officials are in talks with "major American suppliers" of liquified natural gas to boost imports ahead of an expected winter

spike in demand.

  • Sky reports that negotiations are being led by Liz Truss's new Energy Taskforce.
  • Sky: "Sources said the talks were at a detailed stage although it was possible that they would not result in an agreement."
  • Truss has made energy security a central pillar of her administration and securing a substantial deal may be a rare opportunity to point at a success after a challenging five weeks in office which has seen Morning Consult record her approval rating as the lowest ever of any leader subject to regular polling.
  • Truss said the Energy Taskforce, was "already negotiating new long term energy contracts with domestic and international gas suppliers to immediately bring down the cost of this intervention [to reduce household energy bills]".
