UK: Hamas Should Accept Very Serious Ceasefire Offer - Blinken

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and UK Foreign Secretary Lord Cameron have delivered a joint press conference following a meeting at the Department of State.

  • Blinken: "We reaffirmed the imperative of continuing to support and help Ukraine..."
  • Cameron says: "We know what works... If we give the Ukrainians the support they deserve, they can win the war."
  • Cameron says they're making "good progress" on accessing frozen Russian sovereign assets which they, "can take forward at the G7 [leaders summit in May]."
  • Blinken: "We talked about ways to strengthen efforts to prevent the transfer of weapons and materiel to Russia for use in Ukraine," noting that weapons and technologies are flowing to Russia from North Korea, Iran, and China.
  • Blinken says the pair talked about the "imperative" of getting assistance to Ukraine "now," noting the particular need for air defences and munitions: "The House is now back in session and we look to see [supplemental funding request] brought before the House for a vote ASAP."
  • Cameron says, "I'm not here to lecture anyone," but Congress should unlock funding for Ukraine.
  • On the war between Israel and Hamas, Blinken says Israel has made "important commitments" to "significantly increase" humanitarian assistance in Gaza and put in place deconfliction mechanisms to prevent more aid worker deaths.
  • Blinken says that the US doesn't have a date for a potential IDF invasion of Rafah and says he "expects" to meet Israeli counterparts to discuss plans for the operation "next week."
