POWER: UK Plans Progression Fee to Streamline Electricity Connections
POWER
The UK is proposing a progression commitment fee to streamline its electricity connections queue, ensuring only viable projects move forward, NESO said today.
- The fee would only apply if a specific activation trigger is met, requiring developers to pay upon termination or capacity reduction, with charges increasing over time.
- The fee would start at £2,500/MW, increasing every six months by £2,500/MW, up to £10,000/MW.
- The proposal encourages developers to regularly evaluate project viability and aims to ensure the efficient progression of the connections queue.
- And it would only apply to projects in the Gate 2 queue that have not yet submitted a planning application.
- The proposal is now under the code review process and final approval will be determined by Ofgem.
