POWER: UK To Revamp Clean Energy Projects Connection Queue

POWER

The UK government plans to prioritise grid connections for the most important clean energy projects, with a “first ready, first connected” approach, instead of a first come first serve basis, it said on Monday.

  • This means dozens of clean energy projects will jump to the front of the queue for grid connections.
  • The government plans to formally introduce the Planning and Infrastructure Bill to Parliament this week.
  • Ready-to-go projects currently face connection waits of up to ten years.
  • New measures will speed up the approval process for nationally significant infrastructure projects.
  • As part of the bill, Ofgem will deliver a ‘cap and floor’ scheme to unlock billions of pounds of investment in long duration electricity storage.
