Ukraine FM Kuleba: Referendums Won't Change Anything

UKRAINE

Ukraine Foreign Minister Dmyto Kuleba has told reporters ahead of a meeting at the UN with US ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield that planned referenda carried out in occupied Ukrainian territory will have "no impact."

  • Kuleba: "The Russians can do whatever they want. It will not change anything."
  • Earlier today, Mikhailo Podoloyak, advisor to Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky said: "Russians decided to respond asymmetrically to Ukrainian counteroffensive. Thinking that illegal "referendum" will stop HIMARS and the Armed Forces from destroying occupiers on our land."
  • Today, Kremlin backed groups in Kherson and Zaporizhzhia oblasts announced intentions to hold referenda between Sept 23-27, parallel to referenda to be held in self-declared republics of Donetsk and Luhansk, on accession to the Russian Federation.
  • Kremlin backed head of Kherson, Vladimir Saldo said on Telegram: "As head of the Administration of the Kherson region, I signed a decree on the referendum on the entry of the Kherson region into the Russian Federation as a full subject of the unified state."
