Ukraine to Allow Thermal Coal Exports

The Ukrainian government has allowed for 1.15 mn/t of thermal coal to be exported this year amid the complete shutdown of its thermal power plants, according to the government, cited by Bloomberg.

  • The export quota for hard coal and similar solid fuels was increased to support state-owned coal mining operations and facilitate thermal coal exports, according to government spokesperson Verkhovan Melnichuk.
  • The move comes after 100% of the firm’s Centrenergo generational capacity was lost as of March amid several Russian missile strikes.
  • Rotterdam Coal JUL 24 up 2.5% at 124.55 USD/MT at the time of writing.
