UKRAINE: Ukrainians Increasingly In Favour Of Ending War "As Soon As Possible"

UKRAINE

Gallup reportsthat Ukrainians are increasingly likely to want a negotiated end to the war with Russia as soon as possible, a major change from last year when most Ukrainians expressed a desire to continue fighting until victory.

  • Gallup: “After more than two years of grinding conflict, Ukrainians are increasingly weary of the war with Russia. In Gallup’s latest surveys of Ukraine, conducted in August and October 2024, an average of 52% of Ukrainians would like to see their country negotiate an end to the war as soon as possible. Nearly four in 10 Ukrainians (38%) believe their country should keep fighting until victory.”
  • Semafor notes: “Kyiv’s forces have signaled they will keep fighting, particularly after Washington approved the use of long-range missiles on Russian territory, but Ukraine faces a ticking clock with US President-elect Donald Trump’s ascent to office looming: Trump wants a quick, negotiated settlement... On the frontlines, Russia is making progress in the Donbas and loosening Ukraine’s hold on Kursk, while Russian President Vladimir Putin issued a new nuclear doctrine in a thinly veiled warning to the West.”
