Ukrainian Ambassador To Israel Suggests Netanyahu Could Visit Kyiv

ISRAEL

Ukrainian ambassador to Israel Yevgen Kornichuk said that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is considering a visit to Ukraine and is "reconsidering issues related to Russia" following the developments over the weekend.

  • Kornichuk said that "the fastest way for Netanyahu to get to the White House is through Kyiv," referring to the Prime Minister's failure to obtain an invitation for a state visit in the US since he returned to power last year.
  • Israeli Russian-language radio station Best Radio suggested that Netanyahu is also considering a stopover in Chișinău, the capital of Moldova, where he would meet Moldova's President en route to Kyiv.
  • This follows reports suggesting that Israel's Foreign Ministry recommended that the Premier pays a visit to Kyiv, even as the two countries have recently traded barbs over Israel's stance on the Russo-Ukrainian war.
  • Meanwhile, Netanyahu confirmed that he has an invitation to visit China. Playing that card could also serve as a bargaining chip in talks with the US, with Beijing seeking a more active role in mediating between Israel and Palestine.
