UMNO Supreme Council Meeting To Discuss GE15 Postponed

A meeting of UMNO's top five leaders has been postponed, Malaysian Prime Minister and UMNO Vice-President Ismail Sabri told reporters, adding that he does not know the reason for the postponement and there is no new date yet.

  • The Supreme Council of the ruling party was set to meet this Saturday. According to source reports from local media outlets, UMNO leaders had been planning to discuss the timing of the next general election (GE15) as well as cooperation with other parties.
  • UMNO's First Deputy President Mohamad earlier said that the Supreme Council was looking to debate whether to negotiate with PAS, which belongs to the Perikatan Nasional alliance, ahead of GE15. He reiterated that the UMNO-led Barisan Nasional bloc has so far decided to contest the election alone.
