Unconfirmed Stories On Social Media-Iran Could Seek Peace Deal w/Israel

MIDEAST

Unconfirmed stories circulating on social media that Iran have sent a message to the US offering peace negotiations with Israel.

  • Supposedly talks could include Iraq and Lebanon. Would be in exchange for the lifting of US/Western sanctions on Iran.
  • Speculation seems to have initially emerged via the official twitter account of Mudar Zahran, the Secretary General of the Jordanian Opposition Coalition.
  • If there is any credence to these rumours (none proved yet) it would be the most significant development in Middle Eastern politics since the 1979 Iranian revolution.
  • Allegedly the conditions would be the removal of sanctions in exchange for Tehran recognising the pre-1967 borders of Israel (meaning the West Bank, Gaza Strip, and Golan Heights would not be recognised as part of Israel).
  • Given the gravity of the implications for regional and global geopolitics, these rumours should be treated with extreme caution until confirmed through official channels.
