Uniper May Seek Government Bailout

NATURAL GAS

German utility Uniper may seek government support after it said late on Wednesday that it had only received 40% of the contractual gas volumes from Gazprom since June 16.

  • The company is being forced to purchase alternative volumes at higher prices on the spot market and is unable to pass on the costs to consumers.
  • “We are now talking to the German government again about stabilization measures.” Uniper’s CEO Klaus-Dieter Maubach said.
