United States And Canada Announce Minerals Security Partnership

The United States, Canada, and partners and have announced the creation of the Minerals Security Partnership (MSP) - an initiative to "bolster critical mineral supply chains."

  • The partnership, announced at the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada convention in Toronto, is part of a drive to assure critical mineral supply chains can be maintained without making sacrifices in national security.
  • US Undersecretary of State Jose Fernandez: "On the margins of the PDAC, I joined our partners to establish the Minerals Security Partnership to improve our cooperation on diversifying critical minerals supply chains that are essential to the clean energy transition."
  • Conference is currently underway between houses of the United States Congress to produce a final version of the America Competes Act which is also likely to have provisions for reducing dependence on China in critical minerals.
  • A statement from the US State Department reads: "Australia, Canada, Finland, France, Germany, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Sweden, the United Kingdom, the United States, and the European Commission are committed to building robust, responsible critical mineral supply chains to support economic prosperity and climate objectives."
