HUNGARY: Upside Risk for Fuel Prices Ahead

HUNGARY
  • While not new news itself, the FT highlight that Hungary are set to permanently lose access to just over €1bln in EU funding as of January 1st as the dispute over rule of law between Budapest and Brussels extends.
  • A final fuel price hike for the year is due, according to Világgazdaság - with the wholesale price of petrol set to rise by 3 HUF per litre - pushing the average price to HUF 617 per litre for petrol, and HUF 637 for diesel. This price hike is the last before an inflation-linked excise duty takes effect from January 1st - which will reflect a 4.1% increase in prices. As such, upside risks remain for fuel prices headed into 2025.
  • Hungarian and Czech markets are closed for New Year's Eve.
