US Investment Limits Into China Tech Reportedly To Be Based On Revenue Rule

US-CHINA

(MNI Australia) The US plans to announce investment restriction rules into China in coming days, per Bloomberg reports. Headlines have crossed that the rules will be focused on how much revenue companies get from AI and semiconductors etc (see this link for more details).

  • The US plans to restrict US investment into China companies that get at least half of their revenue from high-end technologies like AI and quantum computing. The focus will reportedly be on early stage/new companies.
  • US investment (venture capital and private equity) in larger companies would be permitted for those that get most of their revenue from other sources, but still have divisions focused on this type of tech.
  • The rules would take around a 1 year to enact and would not be made retroactive.
