US Lawmakers Urge Blinken to Oppose the F-16 Deal With Turkey

  • 42 US lawmakers send a letter to state Secretary Blinken opposing US plans to sell Turkey F-16s. Letter said "we share your goal of a Turkey rooted in the West, but we will not achieve that goal if Erdogan govt escapes accountability for violating US law and standards of the NATO alliance.
    • This comes after a second meeting to discuss Turkey's acquisition of F-35s was pencilled in for the coming months to be held in Washington
  • US NSA Jake Sullivan says the US will keep working on commitments to democracy, human rights and rule of law in Turkey and other NATO allies "who have challenges in terms of democratic backsliding at home."
