US LNG Exports Rise in 2023 and Expecting Further Increase in 2024

LNG

US LNG exports could rise about 11% yr/yr to approximately 89m tons (11.75bcf/d) in 2023 according to Bloomberg analysis.

  • The US is the main driver of global LNG supply growth this year due to the restoration of Freeport output early in the year and with a full year of Venture Global's Calcasieu Pass terminal.
  • US LNG exports could increase another 8% in 2024 with a full year of operation at Freeport, the start in H2 2024 of Plaquemines Phase 1 and the first train at Golden Pass.
  • The US exported more LNG than any other country in the first half of 2023, averaging 11.6bcf/d, 10% more than the average for all of 2022 according to EIA STEO. EIA shows 2024 growth at 13% with an earlier estimated start to Golden Pass and Plaquemines than suggest by Bloomberg. Exports are expected up to an average of 12.7 Bcf/d for the first nine months of 2024 and rising to 15.0bcf/d in Q4 2024 driven by Golden Pass and Plaquemines, and the start of Corpus Christi Stage 3.
