US Prepare Fresh Sanctions on Russia for Iran Drone Procurement

  • The US is preparing a fresh round of sanctions on Russia and China for what it describes as human rights abuses by both countries, according to an official familiar with the matter cited by Bloomberg. The sanctions against Russia are expected to focus on the country’s efforts to procure weapons - especially drones - from countries including Iran, which is also under heavy US sanctions.
  • Speaking in Istanbul, Turkish President Erdogan said he’ll talk with Putin on Sunday and Ukraine President Zelenskiy after that on the grains shipment corridor. Turkey has defended Ukraine’s territorial integrity while also objecting to irrational policies against Russia, Erdogan says.
  • In October, the US imported $732m worth of goods from Russia, the highest in five months, RBC report. Russian exports to the US were limited to nuclear fuel, fertilizers and platinum group metals.
  • President Putin visits Kyrgyzstan today for the Eurasian Economic Union Summit. Data-wise, the Federal Statistics Service reports November inflation (Exp. 12.10% Y/Y, 0.40% M/M) at 1600 GMT/1900 local time.
