US Sec State Blinken To Travel To Finland, Sweden, And Norway

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken will travel to Sweden, Norway, and Finland May 29 to June 2 for key diplomatic engagements and a meeting of the U.S.-EU Trade and Technology Council.

  • According to the State Department, Blinken's trip will "deepen transatlantic cooperation on top national security and economic priorities."
  • In Luleå, Sweden May 29-31, Blinken, US Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo, and US Trade Rep Katherine Tai will co-chair the fourth meeting of the TTC, "to accelerate the global clean tech transition, hold Russia accountable and support Ukraine, and increase trade and technology cooperation."
  • On his travel, Blinken will also meet with Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson, Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre, Finnish Prime Minister Sanna Marin, and participate in an informal NATO foreign ministerial in preparation for the upcoming July 11-12 NATO summit in Vilnius.
  • Blinken's trip will come shortly after the Turkish presidential election runoff on May 28, expected to deliver another presidential term to incumbent President Recep Erdogan and clear the path for Ankara to drop its blockade of Sweden's bid to join NATO.
