US to Lead LNG Liquefaction Additions to 2027

The US is set to continue to lead additions of liquefaction capacity between 2023-2027, according to Global Data.

  • US facilities will contribute 46% of the total additions of liquefaction capacity during this period, equivalent to around 58.2m mtpa, bringing the US total LNG liquefaction capacity to 158.4m mtpa.
  • “Abundant shale gas and strong demand for LNG in Asia and Europe have been primarily encouraging investments in the LNG liquefaction projects in the US,” said Himani Pant Pandey, Oil & Gas Analyst at GlobalData.
  • Europe’s decision to transition away from Russian natural gas and LNG due to the Russian-Ukraine war has also given further impetus to the US liquefaction projects and emboldened plans to expand liquefaction.
