US TSYS: Risk-On As Global Pandemic Restrictions Ease
US TSY SUMMARY: Rates broke lower in late trade, long end leading as equities
continued to surge (ESM0 +115.0, NDX +250.0).
- Driving risk-on tone all day: easing or plans to ease global virus
restrictions in addition to hopes of fast-tracked vaccine Moderna's efficacy
(FOMO: fear of missing out apparently exacerbating the move).
- USM0 neared May 6 next low: 178-01. Break through 178-01 brings USM0 back to
April 15 levels. TYM futures have pulled back today following a failure Friday
to top key resistance at 139-22, Apr 21 high. The pullback has left price
trading within the range that has developed over the past few weeks. Yld curves
on session highs.
- Jun/Sep Tsy futures roll volume has started to accelerate ahead first notice
on May 29, FVM/FVU continues to lead w/appr 103,300.
- The 2-Yr yield is up 3.4bps at 0.1792%, 5-Yr is up 6.7bps at 0.375%, 10-Yr is
up 8.8bps at 0.7306%, and 30-Yr is up 11.4bps at 1.4405%.
TECHNICALS:
US 10YR FUTURE TECHS: (M0) Pulling Away From The Range High
*RES 4: 141-26 0.764 projection of Feb 6 - Mar 9 rally from Mar 19 low
*RES 3: 140-24 High Mar 9 and key contract high
*RES 2: 140-00 Round number resistance
*RES 1: 139-21/22 High May 15 / High Apr 21 and key resistance
*PRICE: 138-27 @ 18:48 BST, May 18
*SUP 1: 138-08+/06 Low May 06 / Low Apr 15
*SUP 2: 137-22 50-day EMA
*SUP 3: 137-16 Low Apr 7 and key near-term support
*SUP 4: 136-29+ Low Mar 24
10yr futures have pulled back today following a failure Friday to top key
resistance at 139-22, Apr 21 high. The pullback has left price trading within
the range that has developed over the past few weeks. The underlying theme is
bullish, however futures need to clear 139-22, Apr 21 high to confirm a
resumption of the uptrend and target 140-00 and beyond. On the downside,
clearance of 138-08+, May 6 low would be bearish and expose 137-16.
AUSSIE 3-YR TECHS: (M0) Still Caught In A Range
*RES 3: 100.000 - Handle Psychological Resistance
*RES 3: 99.840 - Range projection on a break of 99.780
*RES 1: 99.780 - High Apr 01 and bull trigger
*PRICE: 99.745 @ 18:55 BST May 18
*SUP 1: 99.720 - Low Apr 14 / 15
*SUP 2: 99.714 - 50-dma
*SUP 3: 99.645 - Low Mar 20
The short-end of the Aussie bond market continues to trade close to the top of
its all time but is currently pulling back. The contract continues to trade
within a range in place since peaking at 99.780 on Apr 1. A break of this
resistance is required to confirm a resumption of the broader uptrend and open
99.840, a range projection and the 100.00 psychological level further out. The
base of the range at 99.720, low Apr 14/15 and marks the key near-term support.
TSY FUTURES CLOSE: Broadly weaker, just off late session lows on average volumes
(TYM>1.15M). Driving risk-on tone all day: easing or plans to ease global virus
restrictions in addition to hopes of fast-tracked vaccine Moderna's efficacy.
Yld curves steeper on wide range. Update:
