US Urges Turkey to Ratify Nordic NATO Membership Bids

  • Bloomberg report that US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan urged Turkey to ratify membership of Sweden and Finland into NATO, speaking ahead of talks with his Turkish counterpart in Washington on Tuesday. The two men “will have the chance to talk about this issue as well as 127 other issues that are relevant to the US-Turkey relationship,” Sullivan said.
  • Ekonomi report that FDI to Turkey has decelerated, while the upward trend in investments abroad continues. The ratio of outgoing investments/incoming investments climbed to 62% in 2022 from 5%-10% in the first 10 years of the 2000s.
  • Turkish, Russian, Iranian, and Syrian deputy foreign ministers will meet in Russia’s capital Moscow on March 15-16 for talks on Syria, according to diplomatic sources cited by Hurriyet. In December last year, the Turkish, Russian, and Syrian defense ministers met in Moscow as part of the normalization process between Ankara and Damascus and discussed counterterrorism efforts in Syria. The three parties agreed to continue the tripartite meetings to ensure stability in Syria and the wider region.
